Sport Stacking Galore

On March 6th, the boys attended a Colorado Springs Tournament that was sanctioned! The first sanctioned tournament ever in Colorado besides the annual World Championships in Denver. I am not sure if I've mentioned it before (and am too lazy to look back!) but I am heading up the Sport Stacking program at the boys' school. So Coach Kay (the PE teacher) and I , (Coach Mindy!) brought 16 kids from the school to compete. We brought four relay teams, a handful of doubles teams, and of course the kids competed individually.
All of the kids did really well!!! It was an absolute blast watching the kids compete and seeing how much fun they all had! Two of the 7 yr olds took first place in doubles. One of the relay teams took 4th place in H-T-H Cycle Relays. Maxx and Miles' team took 1st in the Timed 3-6-3 Relay and 2nd in the H-T-H Cycle Relays.

Miles (6), Aaron (10), Jeffery (10) and Maxx (8).

First place ribbons! With Coach Mindy. ;)

Maxx and his partner Aaron with their 1st place ribbons for Doubles.

As you would suspect, Miles did outstanding. He qualified for the finals in first place for all three individual stacks. And he finished first in individuals as well! I waited to publish this blog because I was waiting to hear if his possible records were legit. Well they were verified last week and.... He broke ANOTHER World Record for the 3-6-3 @ 3.13, previous WR was 3.31. He broke the State Record for the Cycle @ 11.40, previous record was 11.51. He scratched his 3-3-3 time of 2.41. To top that off, two other Team USA kids were there AND at the end of the tourney the organizer gave out medals for the Top Three Overall stack times in the Individual events. Miles got SECOND place in the 3-3-3 and 3-6-3, beating out his 13 year old USA Teammate! WOW!
Andy Retting (18), Miles (6) and Justin Allenback (13). Team USA members on March 6th, 2010.

Unfortunately our excitement about that tournament was put out by an interesting email I received last week. It was from Lisa Cadman, Senator Cadmen's (CO Senator) wife. She claimed that her husband wanted to lodge a complaint on the behalf of kids like Aaron, because they thought it was unfair that USA Team members were allowed to compete and take home medals at the Springs Tournament. I gave her Pola Metz's information but Pola has not heard anything from them yet! Sidenote: Pola is Miles' Team USA coach and a "higher up" within Speedstacks. Upon further investigation, it turns out that the Cadman's kids attend RMCA! They must be friends of Aaron's family and upon hearing about the tournament, decided to act upon it. I do not know if Aaron's family agrees with the Cadman's sentiments or not, but it seems very likely. :(

Fast forward to now! MAXX is going to compete with Miles' USA Relay Team at Worlds! They needed one extra kid, so naturally Maxx was a good option. ;) Their team will have two 8 yr olds, a 7 yr old and a 6 yr old on it... and I am going to be coach! It was the only way for me to stay closeby during all of the competitions at Worlds. ;) SO, the boys attended the first of a few USA Team practices in Denver yesterday! It was a hairy drive up with a 16 car pile up and closure on I-25, but we made it at only 10 minutes late. Four other USA Team members from Colorado were there. It was great fun to watch! And a lot of help for Maxx and Miles too! Especially since the WSSA just came out with three important rule changes which will make scratches less frequent. Pola explained (and demonstrated) to the boys in detail of what exactly the changes mean etc. It was great!

We'll be heading up to Denver on Thursday April 8th in the afternoon to begin our 2010 World Championships whirlwind. The boys will have USA Team practices on both Thursday and Friday night (yes they are missing school on Friday!) and after practice on Friday night there will be an "International Meet and Greet" that they hold every year. It's going to be so much fun! We have 13 other stackers from RMCA going as well and the parents have really stepped up to the plate to help with coaching etc. It's going to be a whirlwind for sure!!!

Myndi,

Thanks for stopping by.

I've heard about your boys and Sport Stacking. Mom COULD NOT STOP raving. She was so impressed. Amazed really.

Steve and Jaclyn are moving to Peru by the end of the summer. Scott and I and Mom and Dad are all planning on going sometime in early 2012. I think. Pretty sure.

Glad to know you have a blog - it's the only chance I have of ever keeping connected to anyone :)
